Queen Street in the morning
Downtown Port Perry is the heritage centre of the Township of Scugog, which lies on the shores of Lake Scugog. The town is 61.3 km from Toronto City Hall in a straight line.
Queen Street makes an easy first stop. Port Perry's downtown has a Heritage Conservation District, and heritage plaques on the commercial buildings explain their history. Reading them slows the walk down, one shopfront at a time, before the day turns toward the water.

Along the waterfront
The Port Perry waterfront runs along the eastern edge of the town. Along it sit the Library, the Marina and the Port Perry Grain Elevator, also called the Old Mill. Palmer Park, at 175 Water Street, belongs to the same stretch.
Afternoon light suits the Port Perry Waterfront Trail, a 5 km lakefront path with views of Lake Scugog. It runs between Highway 7A and Scugog Line 8. Either end works as a starting point.
Evening on Scugog Island
Evening moves to Great Blue Heron on Scugog Island, 9.7 km from central Port Perry in a straight line, as the light drops over the lake. Great Blue Heron Casino & Hotel is at 21777 Island Road, Port Perry, ON L9L 1B6. The Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation opened the casino in 1997.
Water's Edge Restaurant and Quickbites are open to all ages. The Buffet runs Friday and Saturday 3:30 PM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM. The casino is open 24/7 to guests 19+, with a valid, original government-issued photo ID and a secondary photo ID. The operator's code of conduct says: We ID under 30. Holiday hours should be checked on the venue's own site.
